Drawing in Paint:
Silhouette painting is partly memory and true observation. The line above is a saw cut in the wood that I found to paint on. | Drawing in oils means pliability - and managing colour, a bonus. Consistency from the palette to canvas is rewarding. This painting scanned in but had to be done in parts. 35X39cm.

Stopping to paint when a certain soulful quality is attained is good timing.
Application takes time and often when one has applied an undercoat it can disappear into the surface if it is still porous or the colour is mixed too thinly. The medium evaorates or soaks in with warm temperature and the colour resin is left on the surface.
With the beauty of paint one can choose a style to stick with that suits, and inevitably accompanies the individual's language.

Touches of Surrealism can still be appealing, without having to go the full surrealistic route.
Unwittingly, painters often seem to paint what has still to transpire, it is almost as it they tap into actuality before it has landed, and art can be prophetic or historical, as much as one tries to stay in the present.
Cropping paintings is sometimes a solution to some of the image working, and the rest being out of synchronization. An artist also needs to be a handyman with a saw, to cut it in half.

In the defining years of establishing a painting identity, or finding ones consistency, A finished painting can be worked again to lose some of the translucent qualities first identified, and then some of the freshness. I always advocate to myself to simply paint it again, but what an undertaking in the real world of time.

Avoiding the temptation to paint slim figures, I made an exception with this one.
Which was revolutionary for me. Partially accepting the fact that I am fat but think thin.

Oils on hardboard. 2004. Jennifer. 75X60cm R2000
Favourite Lady with a heart of Gold. Inspite of the hardships of life, Jennifer comes out bright and smiling, has a kind heart and is sweetly spoken. All who know her are fond of her, yet she is firm in resolve and quick to serve.
Another partial painting photo (image too big to scan) on the shoulder to shoulder theme, which I quite enjoy painting.

So obvious to me, that once we have arrived at the status of human, we all are at the destination and there is no where to go, but to follow the prompts from within, and to be sure to listen carefully to guidance and conscience.
